The Jacobs University Bremen, Department of Life Sciences and Chemistry has an opening for


Web-Developer/Programmer (f/m), full-time and limited for 3 years,

as part of the UniEuk project funded by the Moore Foundation



Your Task is the implementation of a web-based collaboration platform for the curation of biological data, specifically for dynamic tree like taxonomic data. You will connect the platform to a ticket system for user requests and implement a REST service to manage the data (back-end – Java). You will be working closely with biologists to design and implement the front-end using state-of-the-art web technologies based on HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.



    • Bachelor or Master in Computer Sciences, Web Design, or a comparable field,
    • Good Java knowledge,
    • Proficiency in web development, specifically with, REST, HTML, CSS, Javascript,
    • Use of version control systems (specifically GIT), bug trackers and build tools,
    • Motivation and team spirit,
    • Willingness to explore new topics.


      What we offer:

      You will be part of the SILVA(ngs) project, an internationally successful project with more than 80,000 user, yearly. You will be working in the field of Bioinformatics focused on diversity analysis and taxonomic classification / curation in close collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Bremen, Germany, the CNRS - Station Biologique, Roscoff, France, and the European Bioinformatics Institute, Hinxton, UK. Additionally, we offer room for creativity, flexible working hours and access to state-of-the-art hard- and software.
